Regards to 'Blue Spaders' of C/1-26th and all I served with 78-81, and also in HHC and CSC. 'Graf', Hohenfels are unforgetable and the good times I recall. I retired at Lt.Col in 2005 and went back
to Goeppingen and saw the kaserne in it's new role
as a community and residential center. I was also
the editor of the 1980 26th Regt. yearbook and I donated one to the Robert McCormick Foundation at the
1st ID museum in Illinois which I highly recommend. Stalker and Vickers did great job on that effort and
I recall many, many fellow soldiers and civilians.

I have been reading this site for a good number of years. It is interesting to read of others experiences at Cooke.

I was there in 58-59 with 126th Ord Bn Detachment, it was a very small outfit of 20 or 25 guys. We "dined" in the 404th MP Co messhall. I still have the Thanksgiving and Christmas menus from 1959. Its great to look back at all the good times and reminice a bit.I did not realize it at the time but we had it made, no inspections,no formations, no KP,just get up and go to work. I would like to hear from anyone from that era.

This my second entry, though I have gone on the site regularly. Hard to believe it was 40 years ago on March 9th that I got drafted and a little over 39 years since I was diverted from going to Vietnam and sent to West Germany to serve in the 504th later 501st Admin Co.

I have fond memories of going to Amsterdam, Stuttgart, Nuremberg, and Munich in my black VW bug and going all over Switzerland 4th of July weekend 1971 in my buddy Tom Darr's 1970 BMW 2002. The nice thing about Cooke Barracks in Germany was that you could drive almost anywhere in western Europe in one day.

I left the 501st Adm PM section early 1971 on an early out separation to go to grad school at Slippery Rock State College, Slippery Rock, Pa.

Don't know if my other message got through, but here
it is. I was assigned to the 48th Transportation Unit
Dec. 31, 1968, what a News Years Eve welcome I got.
I was there until April of 1971. My MOS 35M20 and my
secondary MOS 35N20. I had a great time and lots of
great memories. I stayed away from the hash and grass,
the German beer was a lot better. My rank SP-E5,which
allowed me to buy a vehicle, 1960 Volkswagen,Grey color. I gave it to a friend when I recieved orders
to report to RVN training. My orders were canceled
and I didn't have to go after all, but he still got
the car. If anyone gets this message I'd like to hear
more. All my pictures and notes were lost when I devorced 30 years ago.

If you were RA, you had no right to complain. If you were US, you had the right to moan and groan, but it didn't do a lick of good. I moaned. (I guess in the German language, you were freiwillig, RA or mussen US)

I had great times in planet Goerp.
In the 90's we played baseball on the airfield till the city took over the base. After that we were forced off. The Club, Green Sox still plays behind the Seargent Major homes on JFK Strasse.

Remember the Krockodile, Red-Ox (later Express), Life, Dream... What great times those were.

I was at Cooke Bk's.from 1982 Thur 1985. I was in Charlie Company 2nd Plt. 1/24 Inf. later 4/16 Inf. My best friend was in CSC his name was Jeff Adkins. We spent a lot of time on the week ends on the train. Most of the time we would go to Stuttgart and go to the clubs on Konig Strasse. I was amazed to see all the artist doing their art in chalk on the streets there. We always got there earlier enough to see different parts of the city before we got down to drinking. After all that's my they sent us to Germany. My favorite beer was Stuttgarter Hofbrau.
I did spend a lot of my off time in Gerp. Mostly at the MIAKFER they played some really good music and the locals were real friendly. In the summer we spent the weekends at the swim bad.I do have a lot of pictures I will post when I get the time to scan them in. I remember when they put the slot machines in the Enlisted and NCO clubs.
I had my E-5 promotion party at the Rod and Gun Club. It was up behind the snack bar then. I think that later moved it. Here are a few of the names of friends I had at Cooke Barracks. Mike Troute, David Carlson, SSG. Boswell, SFC. Oberlander, Fitzgerald (Spiderman), Sgt. Kent Stalker, SSG. Calix, SFC.Don Lyles. These are only a few of the friends I had after 20 years I know I have forgotten a lot of names, but I can still see their faces.
To finish up I went to Germany with a duffel bag and left with some good memories and a great wife. She is from a village not far from Cooke Barracks call Adelberg. We have been married for 22 years and have three children.
I hope to hear from from some old friends.
